It is caused by dispersion of sunlight by tiny water droplets. A rainbow is always formed in the opposite direction as of the sun.

as we know that when we mix

all the colours of light andt project it on a wall then the light comes is white.

therefore when sun light goes through a water droplet then light shows different colours

in it red is having more wavelength and violet is having

less wavelength.
