Answer:

Because the earth's axis is tilted. ... Many people believe that the temperature changes because the Earth is closer to the sun in summer and farther from the sun in winter. In fact, the Earth is farthest from the sun in July and is closest to the sun in January!

Answer:

Water has a higher heat capacity compared to soil and rock, due to this ocean taking a much longer time to heat and  cool than the land. Hence it is colder in winter and hotter in summer as we move away from the ocean.

Explanation:

Water has a higher heat capacity compared to soil and rock, due to this ocean takes much longer time to heat and  to cool than the land.  Coastal areas will normally have more mild temperatures than inland areas due to the   heat capacity of the water. Every day the land heats much faster than the ocean, and at night the land cools faster. When the land  heats up, the air above it also heats up. On the other hand, the ocean heats up and cools down relatively  slowly. Therefore, areas near the ocean generally stay cooler during the day and have a more moderate  temperature range than inland areas.
