If a person ask you about your ancestors you can better describe your grandfather in comparison of your great grand father because he is much closer then your time period. You’ll easily get his photos, stories related from his life style to your father, mother, grandmother relatives or family friends and surrounding. But you have to do some hard work to know about your great grand father.
Like as, when we study about the modern time period of history we see that the art of history writing was well developed, there we get many relevant sources like documentaries, newspaper, official records, magazines, oral sources, biopics, autobiographies, census reports, personal diaries of freedom fighters and prominent writers, memos, notings and letters preserved in the 19 the century in the archives, the records put down by the East India Company, the records of the Portuguese, Dutch and French companies, Persian chronicles, contemporary or semi-contemporary works such as memoirs, travel accounts and many more..
So it becomes easy to know about the modern Indian history in the light of reliable sources.
On the other hand, ancient Indian history is totally based on secondary sources. And because our ancestors hadn't developed the custom of history writing so the sources we get to know are totally social and religion based. There are so many proverbs admired about that time period which is already in darkness. Secondly, we see that when we know about the ancient India from any writer or historian, it is to be kept in mind that we see the things or event through the eyes of that particular writer. For example, if Abul fazal is writing that Akbar is a great king, extraordinary king then it is the view of abul fazal as we see at the same time Bdayuni is criticising the policies of Akbar. So, the student of ancient Indian history have to be attentive while studying about the ancient time period.
