it is desired to get resistances of values 1ohm,4 ohm and 4.5 ohm from three given resistances of values 2 ohm,3 ohm and 6 ohm. Find how to achieve this.

Its more of a guesswork than conceptual thinking. Keep in mind that adding resistors in series increases net resistance whereas adding resistors in parallel decreases resistance.

It could be gained by joining resistors in a serialised way . because we could get more resistance by it . if it is practical try to join it one by one
