it is easy to hammer a sharp nail into wood than a blunt one as the blunt nail has smaller surface area than a blunt nail. As the force is exert on nail ,it produce large pressure due to small area of nail. I think this answer will help you.

The area of sharp nail is less so it will exert more pressure in the wood and it will easily get immersed in the wood . While the blunt nail has more area thus it will exert less presure so its hard to immerse it .So , its easy to hammer a sharp nail into wood than a blunt one .
