Answer:

Given Equation

x² + 5x - 6 = 0

To find

Discriminant (D)

Formula

D = b² - 4ac

Now Compare with

ax² + bx + c = 0

We get

a = 1 , b = 5 and c = -6

Put the value on formula

D=(5)² - 4(1)(-6)

D = 25 + 24

D = 49

Answer

D = 49

More Information

Now we Factorise the equation by using middle term splitting

We have

x² + 5x - 6 = 0

x² + 6x - x - 6 = 0

x(x + 6)-1(x + 6) = 0

(x -1)(x + 6)=0

x = 1 and x = -6
