Leguminous plants need large amount of nitrogen... But the problem is they can't take the nitrogen present in the atmosphere ...
So there are some bacterias that fix up the atmospheric nitrogen for plants. But they can't fix up huge amounts and need time.. So to fasten up the process nitrogenous fertilizers are added that give up huge amount of nitrogen in the soil.....
