♢It is necessary to loosen the soil before sowing seeds because :

♦ Loose soil has more air spaces which help the roots in exchange of gases.

♦ Loose soil helps the roots to elongate and develop.

♦ Loose soil increases the growth of earthworms and soil-friendly microbes.

♦ Fertilisers and manures are mixed along with pluoghing of soil.

♦ Ploughing helps to remove unwanted weeds.


♢After ploughing of soil many big pieces of soil called crumbs are formed. Inorder to remove them soil is levelled after ploughing. This makes the soil uniform and easy to sown seeds.
Levelling also promotes irrigation, thus helps to conserve water.
