HERE WE GO ✌✌✌

There are a few external morphological distinctions present between the two classes. These can be employed for quick differentiation.

1) The venation- Dicot leaves usually have reticulate venation, i.e. the veins form an intricate network, along with a prominent midrib. Monocots have parallel venation, i.e. the veins run in straight lines parallel to the midrib, if it is present. Monocots usually have long, narrow or linear leaves, whereas dicots show a huge variety.

2) The flowers- Dicots have petals in multiples of four or five, i.e. They are tetramerous or pentamerous. Monocots have petals in multiples of three, i.e. trimerous.

3)The root system- Dicots almost exclusively possess a tap root system, whereas monocots possess a fibrous or an adventitious root system.

4) The vascular bundles- In a cross section of the stem or root, these can be visualised under a compound microscope. In dicots, the vascular bundles occur in a ring, whereas in monocots, they are scattered throughout.

5) The embryo- . Two cotyledons in dicots, and one cotyledon in monocots.

6) The habit of the plant- Dicots are herbs, shrubs, trees, lianas, but monocots are usually herbaceous.

7) Secondary growth- It is seen only in dicots.

Hope it helps!!
