Carnivores have acid-based saliva with no enzyme ptyalin to pre-digest grainsHerbivores have alkaline-based saliva with ptyalin to pre-digest grains. The alkaline saliva does not act properly on meat, while it is necessary to pre-digest grains, that is why chewing is very important part of digestion as digestion starts in the mouth even if herbivores have to swallow their food while grazing they would still need later to take the food up to the mouth and chew it again like how cows do. Carnivores can tear the flesh of their preys and swallow it as they have very strong acid in the stomach.

Hope it helps u.
