the most important of all should be the people handling it non corrupt... and selfless only then the democracy we are following will be ideal. no matter how just our rules are , the people who are in politics and judiciary should be non corrupt.. and of course us, common citizens..

To strive for an ideal form of government is mere a utopia. No form of government or system is perfect, one can only work for better governance. Democratic form of government has been questioned on various fronts that it leads to instability, it is about competition and power, gives importance to numbers, leads to delays in decision making process, even democracies track record with that of economic development has been questioned, but nevertheless democracy is the most preferred and better form of government than any any other form because of the following reasons:

1. Democracy is based on the will of the people. For example, India, people elect their representatives who in turn make laws for the people.

2. It enhances dignity of the individual. Democracies ensures rights to the individuals which allows them to develop to the fullest. Example Fundamental Rights.

3. Democracy allows peaceful change in the government. Elections for instance are the most democratic way of bringing about change in the government. India is moving towards 16th Lok Sabha Elections.

4. It is more accountable form, of government. The fear of losing elections compels political parties to be responsive to the need of the people. Recently, right to information in India has ensured more transparency in its functioning.

5. Democracy is based on the principle of rule of law. All major democracies in the world like US, India, UK function as per set norms and rules and not according to whims and fancies of the ruler.
