Firstly they were not monkeys that evolved into human beings . They were the great apes which were comparatively larger than monkeys . Monkeys are different species from the apes . They evolved because of environmental changes etc.

Some monkey evolve from monkey because of changes in DNA and CHROMOSOMES .
But some monkey does not change in their DNA AND CHROMOSOMES. because of it they do not change in human.
Monkey (mostly chimpanzees) have 48 chromosomes but because of sone change they convert in 46 because of it they changed in humans and develop a new part of animal(new species) . And other cause is environment change.
