ya it is the contribution of the father which determines the sex of the a new born because if the the sperm contains X chromosome then the new born would be a girl .....
if the sperm contains y chromosome then it would be a boy......

the last pair of chromosomes in the male is having x and y but of the female it is both x and x. so it depends on the father's sperm that whether it have x or y. if it is x then the child is a girl and if it is y then the child is a boy.
