It is used for generating series of numbers, days, months etc. - Autofill
You typically need to provide Excel two or three samples in order for it to understand how to fill in the series. You just need to give one example for sequences like months, workdays, and hours.
Steps:
1) Enter the first element of a series (for example, 1, 2), the first two or three items of a series (for example, 1, 2), or any other month.
2) Choose the cell(s) you recently entered data into.
3) Hovering the cursor over the little block in the current cell's lower right corner causes it to switch from the standard block plus sign to a hairline plus sign (+).
4) 4) To fill in the series, click and hold on the fill handle and drag to the right (or down). Be aware that Excel cannot extend series using other types of math like square roots, multiplication, etc. Excel can only extend series by adding to the sequence (that is, adding the same number the following month, etc.).
