It is warmer to wear 2 thin layer of cloth than 1 thick layer of cloth ?

Basically air gets trapped in between the layers of multiple clothes and gets warm slowly which keeps you warm. More the number of layers, more air trapping and more warm you feel. A single thick sweater won't be that efficient in trapping air as thin /thick multiple layers.
