10+3=1 is true if found as mod 12 or remainder on dividing 13 by 12 or a dozen.

If eggs are boxed and packed by the dozen, then 10+3 eggs implies 1 egg left for packing after a dozen or 12 are packed.

Example : In trying to create teams of 11 players each and allocating leftover players to next team, we have mod 11 situation.

Here 7+9=5 & 8+2÷10 & 6+2+3=0.

Any such scenario can be generalized to mod n or remainder on dividing by n where n is a natural number & n>=2.

Observe this is same as numbers to base n where possible digits are 0 1 … (n-1).
