In the picture below, I've shown the the starting point (the point from which the man starts) and the ending point (the start of the 8th turn).

Now the total displacement is the length of the line joining starting and ending points.

Total displacement = 2 x 10cos30°

= 20 x (√3/2)

= 10 x √3

= 10 x 1.732

= 17.32 metres
