It's very dark down here. Almost no plants grow in this area, as a result. A leaf that might take one year to decompose in a regular climate will disappear in 6 weeks. Giant anteaters live in this layer of the forest. There is a large concentration of insects here.I cannot take the risk of going deep into the woods, yet the unique outlook attracts me to explore more . a) Identify the vegetation . (1) b) Which unique feature of the forest is referred here ?(2) c) Mention the areas where they are found in India.

a) The vegetation found in the undergrowth or floor of tropical rainforests includes vines, shrubs, creepers and epiphytes, etc. The canopy is formed by the tops of broad leaved, evergreen, tropical hardwood trees that thrive in such rainforests, they grow up to a height of 60 metres and prevent the entry of sunlight in the undergrowth. Such dense, evergreen, tropical vegetation is found.

b) The undergrowth of tropical rainforests is being referred to here just above the forest floor. Here, the forest litter decomposes readily giving a thick layer of fertile humus, which holds water and encourages recharge of the water table.

c) These tropical rainforests are found in some parts of the Western Ghats, in Kerala, the North-Eastern part of India and most significantly, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
