Explanation:

it takes time to kill a tree because it needs to be up rooted fully .If not so the roots will keep on eating the soil and tree will grow back again. When the root of tree is uprooted it will not die till it turns white and is fully dry in sunlight if one drop of water is also left in it then it is still alive. It usually takes time to kill a monster and the poet has described the tree as a monster which eats the fertile soil and take in rays from the sun. Here the poet is trying that human get to understand the value of tree by his false alligations on a tree.
