Given:

Time taken by passenger to reach the top = 1 min

If escalator does not move time taken. = 3 min

To Find:

Time taken for passenger to reach top

Solution:

Let the distance to the top be = d

Speed of passenger with escalator not moving = d/1 m/min

Speed of man with escalator at rest = d/3 m/min

When both move at a speed = d/3 + d = 4d/3

Thus, time taken = Distance/Speed

= d/4d/3

= 3/4min

= 45 seconds

Answer: The time taken by passenger is 45 seconds
