It takes you 9.5min to walk an average velocity of 1.2m/s to the north from the bus stop to museum entrance.What is your displacement

 you have your velocity in m/s you need your total time in seconds and multiply the two to get displacement
1hr =60 sec
so at 1.2m/s traveling (9.5*60(60 seconds in a minute)= 570 seconds is 570*1.2= 684 meters

Given: the time taken, t = 9.5 min

           the velocity, v = 1.2 m/s

To Find: the displacement, d.

Solution:

To calculate d, the formula used:

  • displacement = velocity x time
  • d  = v x t

Applying the above formula:

d = v x t

  = 1.2 x 9.5

First, convert 9.5 min into sec:

1 minute = 60 seconds

9.5 min  = 60 x 9.5

              = 570 sec

Putting the above value in the formula for d:

d = 1.2 x 570

  = (12 / 10) x 570

  = 12 x 57

  =  684

d = 684 m

Hence, the displacement is 684 meters.
