It was a rainy day. It had been raining since morning and now it was pitch dark outside although it was only six in the evening. I was alone at home as my parents had gone out for shopping. Usually I am not afraid, but since it was dark and gloomy, I was a little scared. I was trying to read a book when suddenly someone knocked at the door loudly. I was scared as I knew no one would come on such a day. The knocking continued and made me nervous. After a while I decided to peep through the curtain and see who it was. I saw a woman standing near the door with a baby in her arms. Both of them were wet and so I took pity on them and opened the door. To my horror, a man was hiding nearby and he pushed me inside and came in with the woman who was his accomplice. He waved a knife at me and told me to show where the kitchen was. I was quite scared and pointed towards the kitchen. He pushed me forward and both of them followed me. I was told to sit on a chair and the woman quickly put the baby down and prepared hot milk for him. Then she made tea and both of them drank it. As I watched, she took out food from the refrigerator and both of them hungrily ate it. After finishing it, the woman packed a lot of things in packets and was ready to go. While leaving the man told me that due to heavy rains their hut had been washed away and they were starving. No one took pity on their baby who would have died of hunger and cold and so he had to resort to this method. He said that he was sorry for all this and would try to help me in some way, some day when he was in a better condition. Both of them left me amazed and a little scared too.
