The right answer is ‘’the walk, which we had, was an agonizing one’’. Here a subordinate clause has been added, which is an adjective clause that has described the type of the walk.

Here from a simple sentence, the sentence has been converted into a complex sentence.  However, in both the cases the meaning and use of tense has remained the same.
