Everybody should know that there was no india before it was formed by britain.

It's not an easy prey though .they came here for trade.seeing an overwelming response from here they continued their presence largely .they bought big lands and made the local people to work for low pays.as the locals landlords and jamindhars can't compete them, they either joined them or paid them tax since the machines lands become their assets

After they united the large land under their control.

They named it as British India and added it as their colony. But some parts are still to

Eighteenth century witnessed the decay of mughal empire in what we today call as India. Especially after the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, Mughal empire disintegrated within 50 years. This disintegration led to loss of the node which tied together this vast expanse of land and in turn created a void which ‘could have been’ filled by the Marathas who were potent enough. Because of the infighting between the marathas on one hand and other events like Plassey and Buxar and other happenings in the century made it possible for Britishers to subjucate this part of the world.

When British domination began in India there was no concept of a united country. Mughal Empire which had ruled over the Indian subcontinent had declined and it was the time when no major power was in control. This was the time when opportunistic kings wanted to acquire as much wealth as possible and British were there to do the same. After the Mughal Empire, Maratha were the only superior power left and when they were defeated by British Empire, no major power was left to challenge them. It is important to understand that it was never really a native kings vs British Empire fight.

The concept of a united country came with the Indian freedom struggle. Typically in my opinion which started after the arrival of MK Gandhi which was also not as easy as it sounds because people were further divided based on caste, religion, wealth etc.

The sense of togetherness is greater today as compared to those times when British were extending their control and that’s because we have more in common today than people in past. That’s why we have a national anthem, flag etc. they tell us that I have something in common with a random guy living in let’s say Tamil Nadu who speaks completely different language and follows completely different traditions. What I mean is, No we are an easy prey today because there is a sense of Nationality that unites us that didn’t exist before or existed towards certain rulers only who didn’t represented the entire subcontinent
