It was festive time. There was a lot of excitement in the air. The sound of crackers could be heard all. Shashi was enjoying it every bit. But all of a sudden there was a loud ‘boom’.
My younger sister had burst a cracker in her hand. The intense heat of the explosion had seared her skin. Her hair were burnt! She was crying, eyes tight shut. We rushed her to the hospital.
Fortunately, there were doctors on emergency duty. They treated her burns. The entire family gathered around her. Then my father spoke very softly to Shashi, “Beta, I agree you were very excited this evening; but why did you not take precautions while letting off the crackers?”
Shashi replied, “I am sorry, Father; I just got carried away. I will be very careful in future.”
After a few hours, doctor let my sister go home.
It was festive time. There was a lot of excitement in the air. The sound of crackers could be heard all. Shashi was enjoying it every bit. But all of a sudden a loud scream was heard in the lounge. Everybody rushed to see what had happened. A man was lying on the floor writhing in pain and clutching his chest. He was wheezing and his face had turned red. It was Shashi's father Singh. Sashi was totally petrified. His mind went numb. "Somebody call a doctor!", Jav shouted. Jav his brother managed to keep his cool and lift his father on his shoulders. He was assisted by their younger sister Priyanka and their cousin Raj. They helped the old man into the awaiting vehicle. Raj drove off fast towards the hospital. The festivities had just turned into one big nightmare.
