Here the narrator was referring to that very spectacle which people with nothing to do used to gather in the street on fine mornings to watch how many fat gentlemen of Ealing caught the train as usually they all started late to pass to it.In one hand they all carried a black bag and a news paper ,and an umbrella in other .They all ran for the train 15 minutes before the right time. Even weather did not matter to them,it was just like a daily drama. But they did not run well .yet they tried their best.At last they all became late .people enjoyed it and gave encouragement to them .
