In this essay, Gardiner wrote about how a man assaulted another man for not saying "please". Social rudeness and impoliteness are not acceptable but it is also true that we can't be violent or aggressive towards people who are not polite or kind. We can surely show our disagreement or disappointment but hitting people or abusing them is not at all acceptable in the face of the law.

These lines are overstatements because the author has very strongly stated the emotions and also gave a hyperbole expression for the reality. Overstatement can be said for hyperbole reactions.
