When a magnet is moved towards a coil, an emf(or current) is induced in the coil due to change in magnetic flux.(ie, ε=d∅/dt) As a result, the galvanometer deflected. However, when the magnetic is kept stationary, there is no change in magnetic flux and hence no emf is developed in the coil. So, the galvanometer deflection drops to zero.
