1 WHY DOES A LOG OF A TREE CAN FLOAT ON WATER . BUT A SMALL PIECE OF METAL CAN SINK IN THE WATER .

log of a tree can float on water easily but small piece of metal can sing in the water because the density of a metal is high as compared to density of the log ...
in simple words metal is heavier than log therefore it sink in the water easily but lock not

The reason behind wood floating on water is that wood has less density than water. So it keeps it floating. Moreover here the buoyant force is more which again keeps wooden object on surface of water, it literally floats and prevents it to sink.

But objects like metals, stones, coins, and nails are denser than water and they sink as we put them into water.
