Answer:

IUPAC name is 2 - methyl , 3 - (1 - methylethyl) - hexane .

Explanation:

Refer to the attachment and go through the following steps for better understanding :)

Steps how we have write IUPAC name :

Step 1 :

  • First we have selected the longest carbon parent chain. [See in attachment ]

Step 2 :

  • We have done the numbering of chain from that end, from which side chains come first.

Step 3 :

Then we know rule of writting IUPAC name that is :

Prefixes (For side chain) + Root word (For parent chain) + Primary suffixes (-ane, -ene and -yne)

Here,

There is one methyl on second carbon atom.

And one complex side chain of methylethyl on third carbon atom. We know, the carbon which is attached to the parent chain is numbered as 1, there are two carbon in complex side chain and one methyl is attached to the first carbon atom.

So, Prefix is 2 - methyl - 3 - (1 - methylethyl)

The longest carbon chains consists of six carbons.

So, Root word is Hex .

And, Single bond is present in this chain.

So, P. Suffix is -ane .

Now, Add them :

2 - methyl , 3 - (1 - methylethyl) - hexane

Thus,

IUPAC name is 2 - methyl , 3 - (1 - methylethyl) - hexane .
