Diene: 2 alkene units
1,4 gives the position of the alkenes from ‘left’ to ‘right’ as you move along the chain

As there are 5 carbon molecules therefore the prefix used will be "pent". Now considering the principle chain. As there are double bonds of either sides of principle chain therefore we can start numbering from any side. Double bonds are between 1st nd 2nd also between 4th nd 5th therefore the hydrocarbon is named as Pent-1,4-diene. Hope you understand.
