let the age of man be x

age of father be y

according to the question ,

x+29=y. ........(1)

or

x+y=51 .........(2)

put the value of y in eq 2

x+29+x=51

2x+29=51

2x=51-29

2x=22

x=11

put the value of x in eq 1

11+29=y

y =40

so the age of man =11

age of father =40
