Mixture of Iron and Sulpher

Observation - When Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) is added to a Mixture of Sulpher and Iron then Hydrochloric acid will react with iron and hydrogen gas will be released, The elemental sulfur will not react in this case.

Equation - Fe + 2 HCl  → H₂ + FeCl₂

Compound made up of Iron and Sulpher ( Ferrous Sulphide )

Observation - When Hydrochloric acid reacts with Ferous Chloride ( Compound made up of Iron and Sulpher ). Muxture of Iron and sulphur will react with Hydrochloric acid to form Ferrous chloride and Hydrogen sulphide(Gas).Hydrogen sulphide smells like rotten egg.

Equation - FeS + 2HCl   →  FeCl₂ + H₂S
