The name Carnatic refers to the region occupied by the Kannada -speaking people in the modern Indian state of Karnataka (formerly Mysore).The Carnatic Wars were a series of military contests that took place between the British, the French , the Marathas, and Mysore for control of the coastal strip of eastern India from Nellore towards the south.Commercial and maritime rivalries between France and England was one of the primary reason behind these wars. Both the French and the English East India Companies wanted to extend their influence in the south. The British emerged victorious in these Carnatic wars and the French company was now present in the areas around Pondicherry only.

in India during the 18th century. the main reason behind these wars was that various European countries wanted to establish their colonies in India. Three carnatic war took place.

The first carnatic war broke out between Britain and France from 1744-1748.

The second carnatic war fought by various Indians for power in South India from 1749-1754 .they were supported by either French or English while maintaining peace in their home countries.

The third carnatic war renewed hostilities between the English and French from 1756-1763.this war ended with the British supremacy in india
