The shrinkage of protoplasm when a cell is placed in hypertonic solution is called plasmolysis. A cell get plasmolysed due to loss of turgor. When a plasmolysed cell is placed in hypotonic solution it regains its normal shape, this phenomenon is called deplasmolysis.
