SOLUTION

GIVEN

Jack will be 40 years old in the next 5 years. In the next 2 years, his age is half of the father's age. Three years ago Mother's age was twice as Jack's Age.

TO DETERMINE

The sum of Jack's parent present age

EVALUATION

Here it is given that Jack will be 40 years old in the next 5 years

So present age of Jack = 40 - 5 = 35 years

In next two years age of Jack will be

= 35 + 2 years

= 37 years

Then age of Jack's father will be

= 2 × 37 years

= 74 years

So present age of Jack's father

= 74 - 2 years

= 72 years

Again Three years ago Mother's age was twice as Jack's Age.

Three years ago age of Jack was

= 35 - 3 years

= 32 years

Then age of Jack's mother was

= 2 × 32 years

= 64 years

So present age of Jack's mother

= 64 + 3 years

= 67 years

∴ The sum of Jack's parent present age

= 72 + 67 years

= 139 years
