Evans was quite good at judging characters. He knew even though jackson has a tough exterior and is bossy, somewhere he lacks intelligence and has a habit of brow-beating(to force or to bully). On the other hand, jackshon knew that Evans was quite smart and sharp. He was also sure that Evans would definitely do something to escape from the prison once again like he did thrice before by fooling the prison authorities. So Jackson didn't wanted to leave any chance of Evans' escape.

As they knew so much about each other, they were termed as "Warm Enemies" in the story.
