Jai starts running from the train station at 2pm and heads towards the bus station at a uniform speed. At 3pm, Veeru starts from the bus station and heads towards the train station at a uniform speed. Somewhere along the way, they cross each other. Then, Jai reaches the bus station, and Veeru reaches the train station, both at 4pm. How many minutes Veeru been traveling when he crossed Jai?

To Find:

for how long Veeru travelled before crossing Jai.

Solution:

Let the speed of Jai be x and of Veeru be y.

Let the distance be d,

d= 2x = y

both complete the distance at 4 pm,

Jai starts at 2 pm means time taken by Jai = 2hrs

veeru starts at 3 pm means time taken by Veeru = 1 hr

according to question , distance is equal

x.2 = y. 1

2x =y .............................(1)

Jai will move d/2 in 1 hr , so in the next t hr Jai and Veeru both will complete the next d/2 distance,

d/2 = x.t +y.t

2x/2 = tx +2tx

3t = 1

t=1/3 hrs= 20 minutes

So veeru will travel for 20 minutes to cross Jai.
