Mahavira is one of the Tirthankaras and is a very important teacher of the Jainism. He was the twenty fourth and last Tirthankara. He was also called Vardhamana. According to Jains, Diwali is the liberation of Mahavir's soul. They also believe that it is the day he attained 'moksha'.
