Mahavira is the right answer.
In Jainism, Diwali has very special importance. When Mahavira, the twenty-fourth attained Moksha (liberation) on 15 October 527 BCE, it was the Chaturdashi of Kartika or Diwali. Thereafter Diwali signifies the centennial of Nirvana of Mahavira's soul. Diwali signifies the close of the year for the Jains and it moreover retrieves the transient celebration of Mahavira, their 24th Tirthankara and his attainment of moksha or liberation.
