CHILD LABOUR
By : XYZ
Childhood is the golden period of man’s life. Children need love and care for their growth and development. However, child labour is the tragic irony of Indian social life. Children are employed in unhealthy, hazardous and dangerous trades and industries. Bare-footed, weak, lean and thin children can be seen working in roadside dhabas, nickel-plating factories, brick kilns, cottage industries and fields. It is a sore sight for the eyes. These child workers are generally ill-fed and treated like bonded labour at an age when they should have been in schools. Poverty and large families are the many reasons that compel poor parents to send their children to work. Their childhood is snatched away from them. The fact that child labour is illegal is also ignored by the mafia of bonded labour. Children need to be liberated from this inhuman labour. Exemplary punishment should be given to the defaulters and the defiant employers.
