and, the present age of Jimmy be y years.

Jane is now twice as old as jimmy.

$:\implies$ x = 2y ---------------(i)

And, 4 years ago she was six times as old as he was.

$:\implies$ x-4 = 6(y-4)

$:\implies$ x-4 = 6y -24

$:\implies$ x -6y = -24 +4

$:\implies$ x-6y = -20 ----------(ii)

Now, Substitute the value of x = 2y in equation (ii) we get

$:\implies$ 2y -6y = -20

$:\implies$ -4y = -20

$:\implies$ 4y = 20

$:\implies$ y = 20/4

$:\implies$ y = 5

Putting the value of y = 5 in equation (i) we get

$:\implies$ x = 2×5

$:\implies$ x = 10

• Hence, the present age of Jane is 10 years .
