Given :-

  • Length of block = 2 inches .
  • Breadth = 8 inches .
  • Height = 10 inches.
  • she decides to make two blocks by cutting through the block on the red line.

To Find :-

  • What is the total area of the cut surfaces she still needs to paint ?
  • What is the shape of each cut surface ?

Solution :-

from image we can see that, when Janey cuts the block on the red line , she gets ,

  • 2 cuboid .

now, since, whole block was painted with gold glitter , after cutting she has to paint two faces of equal area.

so,

→ Area of 1 faces that, she has to paint = Breadth of block * Height of block = Length of face * Breadth of face = 8 * 10 = 80 inches² .

then,

→ Area of 2 faces = 2 * 80 = 160 inches² (Ans.)

Hence, the total area of the cut surfaces she still needs to paint is 160 inches².
