Japan

Japanese people think first for their country and culture before they put themselves. They don’t believe in doing any job incomplete or imperfect. Which is why their work ethics and dedication towards completing a job is legendary and famous across the world.

Their society is purely collective and focused on evolution of their country, beliefs, cultures and harmonize all that with their pursuit of making life easier through technological innovation. If a Japanese student comes up with a superb innovation, his school, college, university, office etc will encourage him or her giving them full support whether monetary or moral.

Japan’s biggest strength is its technology and manufacturing industry. Today they maybe a shadow of their former self from the 70s, but Japanese people have always encouraged innovation and development of products since the Meiji Restoration era.

Their willingness to reward an individual is much higher and therefore encourages people to innovate more and think more for the country, society and sciences and deliver solid results.

India

India comparatively is very individualistic; lesser than USA maybe but extremely individualistic. Also in Japan, there is a cultural enforcement of discipline which we Indians don’t have since the last few centuries. We often prefer to live in the past and bask in that era’s glory rather than focus on the present and how we can achieve more in the future, despite having given the world so much of knowledge and skill for millennia.

The modern Indians are obsessed with ‘who’s better’, ‘who’s from my caste/creed/religion/state/language background’ etc rather than getting things done in the most effective manner, without any personal feelings involved.

Also, Indian institutions are more focused on getting grades and higher marks and if a person is able to innovate better than his or her superior/teacher/lecturer/boss etc, they are intimidated, discouraged or targeted. The government approach towards an individual’s innovation in the last 60 years has been nothing less than downright hostile.

Now the attitudes are slowly changing in India, but in Japan this spirit of doing something better was always there. They were also a rigid culture once but found a way to harmonize their culture and faith along with modern technology and the result is for everyone to see.
