Jaundice is defined as the yellowing of skin or white of the eyes due to excess bilirubin release.

Hepatocellular jaundice can occur due to a retarded function of liver whereas hemolytic jaundice occurs when hemolysis occurs which is defined as breakdown of red blood cells in abundance. There is another type called obstructive jaundice which occurs due to blockage in bile duct.
