Jaycie has a VIP membership to a movie theater, so she pays $27 a year and $6.00 for each movie she sees. Claire doesn’t have a membership, so she pays $8.25 each movie she sees. How many movies would they have to see in a year in order to pay the same amount that year?

Answer:

12 movies

Step-by-step explanation:

Assume that the number of movies they each see in the year be x

As Claire doesn't have membership, she pays $8.25 for each movie

Total amount paid by Claire = 8.25x

As Jaycie has membership, she pays $6 for each movie

So amount paid by Jaycie for movies = 6x

But, she pays $27 for the membership

So, total amount paid by Jaicie = 27 + 6x

Given that they both pay the same amount

So, 8.25x = 27 + 6x

⇒ 8.25x - 6x = 27

⇒ 2.25x = 27

⇒ x = 27/2.25 = 2700/225 = 12

∴ They both have to watch 12 movies
