Jayne stopped to get gas before going on a road trip. The tank already had 4 gallons of gas in it. Which best describes why the graph relating the tidal amount of gasoline in the tank, y, to the number of gallons that she added to it, x, will be continuous or discrete

complete question is -----> Jayne stopped to get gas before going on a road trip. The tank already had 4 gallons of gas in it. Which best describes why the graph relating the total amount of gasoline in the tank, y, to the number of gallons that she added to it, x, will be continuous or discrete?

A: The graph will be continuous because the amount of gas that she added to the tank does not need to be an integer amount.

B: The graph will be continuous because we are not told a maximum value for the amount of gas.

C: The graph will be discrete because there are already exactly 4 gallons of gas in the tank, so to fill it up will take a whole number of gallons of gas.

D: The graph will be discrete because there is an end to the amount of gas she can use, as the tank will be completely full at some point.

solution :- Jayne stopped to get gas before going on a road trip. the tank has already 4 gallons of gas on it .
first of all we have to show it in mathematical form,
y indicates total amount of gasoline in the tank
x indicates number of gallons that she added in the tank.
y = x + 4 [ because 4 gallons of gas already in the tank ]
there is not given any conditions like number of gallons that she added in the tank is integral or not. so, we have to assume y = x + 4 is continuous function. where x belongs to all real numbers .

hence, option (A) is correct choice.

The graph will be continuous because the amount of gas that she added to the tank does not need to be an integer amount.

A graph is discrete if you can count it, otherwise, it is continuous. Since we can not count gas, or in general, any liquid, this is continuous. The answer is:

The graph will be continuous because the amount of gas that she added to the tank does not need to be an integer amount.

By "integer amount", it means 1, 2, 3, 4,

And since we can get, for example, 4.5 gallons of gas, we can get amounts that are not integers. This means we can get amounts that are not countable.
