In the given diagram, resistance of voltmeter is 10kΩ.

we have to find the voltmeter.

solution : let reading of voltmeter is v.

current through resistance of 400Ω , i₁= v/400

current through voltmeter = v/10kΩ = v/10,000

so the current through resistance of 800Ω , i₂= (v/400 + v/10000)

from Kirchoff's law,

i₁R₁ + i₂R₂ = ε

here, i₁ = v/400 , R₁ = 400 Ω , i₂ = (v/400 + v/10000) and R₂ = 800Ω

⇒v/400 × 400 + (v/400 + v/10000) × 800 = 6

⇒v + (25v/10000 + v/10000) × 800 = 6

⇒v + 52v/25 = 6

⇒v = 6 × 25/77 ≈ 1.95 volts

Therefore the reading of voltmeter is 1.95 v
