Jerome K. Jerome's novel 'Three Men in a Boat' is full of sterling humour. The tone, vocabulary, characters, and incidents are full of pure humour. This humour comes from his knack of perceiving humour in situations and comments on the commonplace things and happenings.

Be it the description of his imagined ailment, or the packing scene, or Uncle Podger's hanging of the picture, or the cheese scene, genuine humour is ubiquitous throughout the novel. Besides the ordinary humour, there are certain extreme humour scenes. Scenes such as Harris getting lost in the maze while offering help to the already lost visitors. Apart from the above mentioned scenes, there are many other scenes that make the reader laugh a lot. Humour is the essence of this novel.

Jerome is the narrator of the story 'Three Men in a Boat'. He has a knack of describing incidents in a humorous way. He has a keen sense of humour and does not miss an opportunity to make the readers laugh.

He describes in a humorous way how he and his friends imagine themselves to be ill. The Haymarket Scene and Montmorency's encounter with the Tom cat are equally humorous. The packing scene, the cheese incident, Uncle Podger's attempts to hang a picture, and the way in which Harris gets lost in the maze while trying to help the lost visitors are some of the funny incidents which are very amusing.
