The Judge hear cases per hour = 2  2/19

Given : A judge hears 5 cases every 2 3/8 hours

Jerry hears cases at a constant rate.

To Find :  How many cases does he hear per hour?

Solution:

2 3/8 hours  = (2 * 8 + 3)/8

= 19/8  hours

Assume that judge hear cases per hour =  n

Cases hear in  19/8   hours = (19/8)  * n

=> Cases hear in  19/8  hours = 19n /8

Cases hear in   19/8 hours  = 5

Equate both

=> 19n /8   = 5

=> 19n = 5 * 8

=> 19n = 40

=> n = 40/19

=> n = 2  2/19

Judge hear cases per hour = 2  2/19
